Hidden Valley and the camouflage observatory!
Steps leading back to the house.
The "other" astronomical observatory in the neighborhood:
mini Stonehenge
| We got some early snow in October which and turned the
pathlights into mushrooms. Pretty!
The original white color would have made better winter camouflage ;-)
| The snow melted off that day and everything stayed perfectly
dry inside. Ah, life is good.
| Stagecoach Observatory from above ...
| ... and from the bottom of the arroyo, a nice portrait.
The long 6'-wide steps are for other folks' telescopes during star parties.
The slit opened up for this picture (a rare sight during the day).
The telescope: a Meade 16" LX-200, what a sweetie.
Looking up at the slit.
A photo of the observatory from across the arroyo, and a zoomed image.
The surface is a special reflective gel-coat which keeps the telescope
cool, but it is sure is bright white.
So we've installed an air-conditioner to cool down the mirror and
we're going to paint the observatory. But what color? Camo-net from
the local Nat'l Guard would look strange. The top image is the current
white color, the middle one is "Cimmaron" and the bottom one is our
house color. The color of the local dirt is somewhere in-between,
we'll probably go with that and post the results here.
